Kenner Wal-Mart shoplifter assaults police officer

Kenner LA March 19 2017 A man and woman accused of shoplifting at a Kenner Wal-Mart on Sunday (March 12) allegedly assaulted an officer and led police on a brief car chase before being arrested, according to the Kenner Police Department.
A Kenner officer working a detail at Wal-Mart, 8912 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, attempted to detain Kimberly Tonquinto, 25, at 7:01 p.m. following a shoplifting complaint, police said. Tonquinto is accused of resisting arrest and in the process striking the officer in the mouth, after which she ran out of the store and into a waiting blue GMC Yukon, police said.
The truck was driven by Eric Carrillo, 27, police said. He ignored officer commands to stop in the store's parking lot, then tried to make an escape down Veterans Boulevard and Power Boulevard, before being stopped on West Esplanade Avenue in Metairie, according to police.
Tonquito was charged with theft, resisting an officer with injury, and illegal possession of .1 gram of cocaine. Carrillo was charged with flight from officers, theft, no driver's license, and improper display of a license plate. Carrillo is accused of covering his license plate with a bag, police said. The accused are both from St. Rose.

The officer who was hit received minor injuries, according to the department.
